Travel Safe

In my interview on the Wim Demeere Podcast I discuss how to say safe when travelling to some of the world’s more dodgy places, along with a liberal scattering of examples of lessons learned from when I did it all wrong - from getting robbed in Kathmandu, to being ambushed in Sudan, shot at in Israel, chased by a voodoo priest in Benin, having my home invaded in Addis Ababa, getting scammed in Mumbai, being held at gunpoint in Mozambique, and, of course, dealing with frisky yaks in the middle of the night in the Himalayas. But it’s all good!

We cover how to assess risks, knowing who to trust, the right way to get robbed, securing your accommodation, how technology is your friend, the best way to deal with people, and how to handle those little requests for “facilitation fees”.

PLUS we explore just why exactly there is now a cocktail called the Benfield Disaster served in southern Namibia and why it’s not such a good idea to try to take your swords onto the Eurostar.

Wim's fascinating podcast focuses on security, self defence and martial arts. I’m by far the least illustrious in a long line of speakers ranging from psychologists to police officers, MMA fighters to special forces types. You can find it on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn. I highly recommend subscribing!
